The Portage Terriers are one win away from advancing to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League final. Portage rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and beat the Virden Oil Capitals 4-2 Friday night at Stride Place. Brenden Holba, Austin Peters, Mike Stubbs and Ryan Botterill did the goal scoring for the Terriers who lead the best-of-seven semifinal three games to two. Naton Miller and Andrew Blocker replied for the Oil Capitals. Game six goes Sunday in Virden. The Swan Valley Stampeders face the Steinbach Pistons tonight at the T.G. Smith Centre. The Pistons lead that series three games to one.


The Winnipeg Ice extended their Western Hockey League playoff winning streak to five games. Matthew Savoie had a goal and two assists as Winnipeg defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-3 in game one of their best-of-seven Eastern Conference semifinal. Owen Pederson, Zach Benson, Connor McClennon and Graham Sward also scored for the Ice. Game two is set for tonight at the Wayne Fleming Arena.


Canada will meet Switzerland and the United States will take on the Czech Republic today in the semifinals at the World Women’s Hockey Championship in Brampton, Ontario.


The Stanley Cup playoff pairings are set. The Western Conference quarterfinals will feature the Winnipeg Jets against the Vegas Golden Knights; the Edmonton Oilers face the Los Angeles Kings; the Minnesota Wild take on the Dallas Stars and the defending champion Colorado Avalanche meet the Seattle Kraken. The Eastern Conference quarterfinals have the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Tampa Bay Lightning; the Boston Bruins meet the Florida Panthers; the N.Y. Islanders take on the Carolina Hurricanes and the N.Y. Rangers face New Jersey.
