Hockey Canada is offering a new program this year along with its partners Bauer and Canadian Tire. The Canadian Tire First Shift program is designed to break down barriers for kids and their parents when entering the hockey family. The program is part of an initiative to get one million families into the sport globally over the next ten years.

First Shift provides the equipment and the necessities so all parents and kids have to do is show up and get involved. The program is not offered in every community, but a select group that applied to have the curriculum, the Southern Steelers were one of the lucky groups to offer the option.

"You do not have to be part of the Southern Steelers to be a part of First Shift.  Anyone interested is allowed to take part once they register online. The program will take place in Dominion City" says President of the Southern Steelers, Rick Storoschuk.

Storoschuck shared with News Reporter Rochelle Rawdon how the Southern Steelers Got Involved.
