An area of thunderstorms and showers moved northward out of North Dakota Saturday, bringing welcomed precipitation to parts of the Pembina and Red River Valleys last night.

“It’s been a couple weeks for some areas since they had their last measurable rainfall event, so this was certainly good news, and timely, considering it was, once again, getting quite dry,” said CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner Sunday morning.

Sunday will be the final day of the extreme heat Southern Manitoba has had for the last few days, with a cold front sweeping through the region allowing for a significant cooling trend to take place to start the week. Heat Warnings remain in effect for the Red River Valley and Southeastern areas of the province, with highs expected to reach the low 30s, and Humidex values around 40.

“You’ll notice strong northerly winds as that cold front moves through, and behind it high pressure will build in from the north,” explained Sumner. “That means much cooler temperatures, relatively speaking, compared to what we’ve had. By Tuesday we’re expecting highs right around 20, with some recovery throughout the week to the 24 to 26 range by the back half of the week.”

Sumner added a more unsettled pattern will also be present this week, with several chances for showers.
