TV Host Rick Mercer, of the long-running Rick Mercer Report, stopped by the Corn and Apple Festival in Morden on Saturday.

He explains the day of shooting was his first for season 14.

"This is a perfect place to start," Mercer says. "It's all I need for a great segment... it's not about the corn or the apples, it's just always about people, and there's a lot of people here and they have incredible stories."

Mercer notes there are a lot of similarities in the many communities he's visited for his show over the years.

"By and large, when you see an event like this there are similarities, Canadians coming together celebrating their own culture, unique to their own community," he says. "It's a very family oriented event, you can absolutely see that, and people are genuinely having a good time."

The comedian's weekly half-hour show is part news parody, sketch show and editorial rants. The program also includes on-location segments from communities across Canada.
