An ultrasound unit will be arriving at the Altona Memorial Hospital emergency room shortly.

Thanks to a well-recieved fund raising campaign, enough funds have been generated to purchase the equipment along with a single probe.

Spearheaded by the medical team at the Altona Clinic this summer, the initiative to raise $60,000 quickly took off thanks to personal donations made by the doctors as well as a swell of community support. By the end of September, $46,500 had already been generated.

Access Credit Union added to that pot with a $5,000 donation presented Thursday.

In a submitted statement, a company spokesperson said, "Access Credit Union is proud to support the Altona Clinic. We feel this (ultrasound) will have a tremendous benefit to the community of Altona and surrounding areas."

Connie Friesen, office manager at the Altona Clinic, says the team is still looking for additional funds to pay for a 2nd probe for the machine, at a cost of $10,000.
